con·sis·tence
n 1:
a harmonious uniformity or agreement among things or parts [syn: consistency] [ant: inconsistency] 2:
the property of holding together and retaining its shape;
These two words are wonder to me. In a way they compliment each other. To achieve consistency you have to be persistent. Being consistent on a chore, task or belief requires you to exert a continuous (harmonious) effort on it. This will, of course, require persistence. Its like persistence is a pre-requisite of consistence. Taking my jogging habit as an example, I’ve been trying to have at least 4-6 jogs in a week but i barely make it to 3. I want to achieve a consistent jogging routine, but my I guess I cannot afford it or I am not that persistence enough.
Consistency is a word that’s a fame for us. We barely notice it but it is. We usually think of having a smooth, consistent lifestyle where, financially speaking, we have enough. Or we want a stable (in other word, consistent) job that assures us security. We long for a stable realtionships, aspire for great things but we barely try enough to make this happen. We aren’t that persistent enough. We long for consistency but we lack persistence.
Persistence is the ability to do things even if you are the only one doing it. We should not be discouraged even if we are alone in our endeavor, this is just a test of our persistence. Persistence requires faith on what we are doing. This faith will be the reason that’ll keep us going in times of hardship. It will be the “warm” thought that we can pull out in times of despair.
You see, consistency requires persistence, persistence requires faith and faith is the belief that you’ve carried all through your life. It is what made you.
